What Ed Did This Past Weekend

Took a trip into New York this past weekend. Wandered around, saw a few people, caught a movie.

Met freakin' Stan Lee:

(click for the Super-Size version)

I not only met freakin' Stan Lee, but got to interview freakin' Stan Lee.

Plus I did a lot of other stuff, too. Here's a roundup of all the news that I covered at this past weekend's New York Comic Con, and here's the Flickr photo gallery. Will probably get the photos of other comics people in there soon, but the funny people in costumes are already up and really that's all that most people care about.

Warm and Fuzzy

Went karoaking with a bunch of friends and one of my friends requested a song I haven't heard in ages. It was Tommy Page’s “A Shoulder to Cry On” so it brought back warm and fuzzy memories of Feng Chia 1989. Happy early Lunar New Year! Wishing you all a safe and healthy year of the boar to you and your loved ones.

Found this on Youtube (I love this site).

BTW does anyone remember the songs that was played in culture night? Such as the Cantonese song. I can't understand a lick of Cantonese so don't even know where to start. I'm on a trip for songs of my youth.

Feng Chia Picnic, Northeast Edition 7/2/2006

So a bunch of us got together on July 2nd for a picnic in Riverside Park on NYC’s Upper West Side. The weather was nice – warm & sunny, and we had a table in the shade! Full pics are here, but here's a sampling.

Present initially were: Vivian, Karynn, Kaja, Jessie, and me, with associated significant others and children (or lack thereof).

Anna (with associated small animal) wasn’t able to make it to the picnic part but she did come up a little later.

The next night, July 3, Morgan & I got to see the Mets pounded by the otherwise inept Pirates at Shea Stadium:

The full set of pics is here:

Oh and lastly here’s a pic of me and Morgan, circa 1989:

Get-together in NYC this coming Sunday! 7/2/2006

Yo yo yo, wassup homiez??? (Translation: I haven't learned any new slang terms since 1987)

Word on the streets is that there will be a get-together in New York City's famed Riverside Park, this coming Sunday, July 2, 2006. This is going to be the one event this year you won't want to miss. Hahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahah just kidding. But seriously if you're in town (or close thereof) and in the mood for a potluck style picnic, please consider this as one of your many choices.

Even if you're not in town, consider flying in just for this one thing and then flying home as soon as it's over. You may find that it was almost worth it.

The information that I've gathered suggests that at least some people are likely to attend - Vivian, Jessie, Kaja & Karynn, me, so far. Some significant others and children will probably be there too, and at least one animal. If your parents, siblings, and/or 1st degree relatives would like to come, that's great except they have to bring their own food just like everyone else, and they might have to sign a waiver. Same goes for friends & business associates and for strangers you meet on the way there. No nude sunbathing will be allowed.

It's unclear to me exactly where in the park it will be, or exactly when it will take place, but these types of things are not really important anyway.

Show of hands?

MoCCA Art Festival this weekend

I'm going to be in NYC tomorrow, June 10, for the MoCCA Art Festival -- a place where a bunch of indie comic book creators gather to hawk their wares and babble about comic books. Probably not much like the New York Comic-Con (don't know if I ever linked to the photo gallery I took while I was there) -- this is where the Cool Kids go to talk about comics, but luckily most of them are nice enough to let nerds like me in, too.

It'll be at the Puck Building from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM, though Frances and I will need to leave a lot sooner than that. Anybody gonna be around and willing to either meet up for lunch and/or gawk at cool funky strange comics? Graphic Novels are the hot hip new thing, ya know.
